Traveling with your dog in Elkton

By The Elkton Lodge Team 2 min read

Elkton Lodge is pet friendly. A few simple steps make the stay easy for you, your dog and the guests next door, plus some green places nearby for a good walk.

For many families, a trip is not complete without the dog. The good news is that Elkton Lodge is pet friendly, so your four-legged travel companion can come along. A little preparation goes a long way toward a relaxed stay for you, your dog and the guests around you.

Let the front desk know

The most important step is simple: tell the front desk that you are traveling with a pet, ideally when you book or before you arrive. Our team can explain the current pet policy, answer your questions and help make sure you are in a room that suits you. Pet policies can change, so please check with us rather than relying on what you heard on a past visit.

Pack for your dog, too

  • Food and water bowls, plus enough food for the trip.
  • A leash and collar with up-to-date ID tags.
  • Waste bags for every walk.
  • A familiar blanket or bed so the room feels like home.
  • Any medications and a copy of vaccination records.
  • A favorite toy or chew to help your dog settle.

Good manners make for a good stay

  • Keep your dog leashed outside your room and in the parking lot, where cars and trucks come and go.
  • Clean up after every walk. It keeps the grounds pleasant for everyone.
  • Think about noise. New places can make dogs bark. A long walk before settling in often helps them relax.
  • Do not leave a nervous dog alone for long. If your dog is anxious in new places, plan outings where they can come along.

Places for a good walk nearby

Cecil County has plenty of open space. Elk Neck State Park offers woodland trails and water views, and the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area has wide fields and wooded paths to explore. Just across the line in Delaware, White Clay Creek State Park is another popular choice. Each park sets its own rules for pets, such as leash requirements and areas where dogs are not allowed, so check the park's website before you go.

After a long drive

Dogs feel the miles too. When you arrive, give your dog a chance to stretch, drink some water and sniff around on a leash before heading inside. A calm first few minutes helps everyone settle in for the night.
